چکیده

AISI H13 steel samples were additively manufactured using a laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) system. The effect of annealing tem-perature, quenching & tempering, and nitriding determined. microstructure properties the investigated optical microscopy, scanning electron backscattered diffraction, probe micro-analysis, X-ray roughness measurement, hardness tester. results show that as-built sample had on surface pores inside. consisted martensite retained austenite. average was 460 HV, porosity 0.086 %. process helped homogenize microstructure, increase density, reduce LPBF-manufactured sample. to maximum 787 then tempering reduced 572 HV. Heat treatment processes tended block size, austenitic content, precipitate V-Mo-rich carbide in steel. After conducted, case depth 87 um, increased up higher than 1020 HV due formation CrN Fe3-4N.

Nanosized precipitates in H13 tool steel low temperature plasma nitriding

A comprehensive study of pulsed nitriding in AISI H13 tool steel at low temperature (400°C) is reported for several durations. X-ray diffraction results reveal that a nitrogen enriched compound (-Fe2-3N, iron nitride) builds up on the surface within the first process hour despite the low process temperature. Beneath the surface, X-ray Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS) in a Scanning Elec...

Effect of Heat Treatment on Mechanical Properties of H13 Steel

This paper reports results of in-house experimentation on heat treatment and mechanical testing of H13 tool steel. Heat treatment strategy practiced by the industry is described in detail. Effect of various types of heat treatment on fracture toughness, hardness and other mechanical properties is also analyzed. It was found that toughness (expressed in terms of plane-strain fracture toughness K...

Tensile Fracture Behavior and Failure Mechanism of Additively-Manufactured AISI 4140 Low Alloy Steel by Laser Engineered Net Shaping

AISI 4140 powder was directly deposited on AISI 4140 wrought substrate using laser engineered net shaping (LENS) to investigate the compatibility of a LENS-deposited part with the substrate. Tensile testing at room temperature was performed to evaluate the interface bond performance and fracture behavior of the test specimens. All the samples failed within the as-deposited zone, indicating that...
